Food Pantry
The Oak Creek Food Pantry is a joint effort of 3 churches – Oak Creek UCC, St Charles, and Fairhaven. All three provide volunteers and funding to feed those in need in the 45440 and 45429 zip codes. The pantry is open 6-7pm each Thursday. Clients must meet federal income guidelines and bring a form of ID or mail that shows their address. They can come once every 4 weeks if they need. At each visit they are given food enough for 5 days. Food pantries are meant to serve as an emergency food supply, not to fill a family’s total food needs. Families are encouraged to apply to other available social service agencies for support.
The Oak Creek Food Pantry is a member of the Dayton Foodbank and gets supplies from them 2 times per month to stock the pantry. Additionally we accept donations of food, personal care items and household cleaning supplies.
To volunteer, go to gmail on Google.com – Username: oakcreekfp Password: Foodpantry There you can check how many have signed up and send an email to volunteer.
- In 2009, we provided 511 packages of food to families, food for 1656 people.
- And in 2010, we provided 600 packages of food to families, food for 1976 people.
- Typically each Thursday, 3 to 4 volunteers are sufficient to package and distribute the food.
- However the 4th Thursday of every month, we consistently have 30 families visit the pantry. So on the 4th Thursday, we would like to have 6 volunteers work the pantry.
We have 4 volunteers scheduled for the 4th week this month. We would like to have at least two additional volunteers.
Thanks for your continued help and support!!
Elva (Oak Creek UCC) and Tim (St Charles parish)
